Building the Shed Platform

The first in a series of pictures. Will be posting these at random over the next 24 hours- we still have a lot of work to do!

What you see is the platform we built behind the current shed, which is not half-enough space for everything we need to keep out of the elements.

The platform is composed of A-gravel, which has quite a bit of sand mixed in. This allowed us to compact it pretty tight (I drove the lawnmower over it repeatedly). As the yard slopes towards the pond, we had to build up the back edge of the platform quite a bit. At the northern edge (far side) of the platform, it is only about an inch deep.

You can see a big hole in the side of the older shed. This was created by the previous owners, who used half the shed for a dog shelter. That hole was the door to the dog run outside, which was also a sand platform, now buried beneath the gravel platform we created.

Hmm. If I am going to be writing this much with each picture, this will definitely take a while to post!
