Description

This issue: Arctic Ice is Melting, and it is Your Fault.

'The poles are warming twice as fast as the rest of the world.'

That is the claim, as I have always understood it. Both poles are warming faster than the rest of the globe. The IPCC, other activist scientists, and politicians across the globe, make this claim.

Those you argue with will tell you this claim was never made. 'Only the Arctic is warming up twice as fast,' they will tell you. 'No one ever claimed both poles would warm up that fast,' they will say.
However, NASA says both poles are warming up, and that the reason for the warming is due to energy in the atmosphere that is being transported to the poles through large weather systems
.
While at the same time, other groups of scientists will tell you that both poles are under attack by warm water from below
.

Of course, they've had a lot of problems explaining why the Antarctic is not doing what they claimed

And they've been working so hard to figure that one out, that they have offered up half a dozen different reasons for Antarctic ice- some of which totally contradict each other!

But I digress.

We've been hearing about the Arctic 'totally melting away' for.... well over 100 years, actually. Arrhenius, one of the original proponents of the theory of 'man-made' global warming, predicted at the turn of the Last century that a doubling of CO2 (that is to say, from 280 parts per million, pre-Industrial Revolution, to 560 parts per million ( a level we are still at least half a century away from)) would raise the Earth's temperature by upwards of 9 degrees. And this would melt the Arctic away.

Of course, in 1906 he revised his figures quite a bit, downwards. Climate sensitivity - a topic I will cover down the road - only worked out to about 1.6 degrees, much less than he originally estimated. And the effects of 'man-made' global warming would be Beneficial.

As I mentioned, we've been hearing about the Arctic 'melting away to nothing' for a very long time. This is based upon an immensely long set of data, stretching all the way back to 1979, and which is dependant upon satellite imagery.

Got that? The entire claim is based upon 34 years worth of data.

Now, if you read the article linked to above, the same claims were being made in the 1930s. Arrhenius, while not having data before him, made the claim in the late 1800s.

But the idea that this is The First Time. EVUH! That the Arctic has seen such low ice? Well, seems that this is not even close to being the first time, as ice was almost non-existent during the Holocene Climate Optimum , less than 10,000 years ago. And stayed like that for Centuries.

The Polar Bears did not go extinct.
There was no 'methane explosion,' as Arctic permafrost melted.
The world did not turn into Venus (nor can it, Ever).

But, back to the point. Seems that there was open water at the North Pole a number of times in the past century. One John Daly does a superb job of laying it all out, here.

It is documented.
But, those who push the UNproven theory of 'man-made' global warming, hope you will never learn any of this. The poles are melting. For the First Time. EVUH!.

And it is your fault.

But hey, there's a few things wrong with the 'Arctic Death Spiral.' This year is being a prime example of that (Please see the chart at the top of this article). Seems the Centre for Ocean and Ice - Danish Meteorological Institute, has been keeping track of things up in the Arctic since 1958 - and this summer is proving to be the Coldest on Record.

Coldest on record. Summer ice melt is already shutting down, a month early.

I thought the poles were warming twice as fast as the rest of the Earth? Should it not be warmer up there? Did anyone else notice 5 years of increasingly cold winters, across much of the globe? Have they looked at the increasingly cold and snowy winters the Southern hemisphere is starting to see? Have they noticed that it Snowed in June, in France, keeping at least one ski slope open? That ski slopes are opening earlier, and staying open later, than they used to? Lots more questions. Questions they would very much prefer you did Not ask them.

Is it Hot summers that lead to cold winters, or is it Lack of Arctic Ice, that leads to cold winters? They have claimed both. Of course, they also claimed in the 1970s, that 'record' Arctic ice, was also responsible for cold winters.
Maybe the science isn't settled? Hmmmmmm?

Pay attention, when they give you answers. Many of them are going to conflict.

And, that's it. I'm back to sleep.

This has been one of the stranger summers here in Kentucky. I can remember clearly the super snow of 76/77 where by I was stuck from school for two straight months. (Mainly due to the conditions of roads at the time, and the hilly conditions of the area. (Pike Co., KY which is in Appalachia.)

We have gone though the standard rainy period of spring, a dry spell, then nearly three straight weeks of light to extreme rains, but not a large increase in storms. Starting around July 31, we've been hit with this unusual high that's sucking cold air from your country - moderating temperatures and humidity until Friday. Even now it's not extreme as August is known for.

I have been hearing that it's about time for one of what I termed a 'meter snows'. And like clockwork it comes around every 10 or so years. . Of course it may be Winter14 before we are actually hit with that, but the possibility is there.

But to be honest - all my data seems to come into range with yours. climate IS shifting but it seems cyclical in nature. As I said, one of my learning 'obsessions' in high school was climatology and I did extensive research into this for a science faire project.
