Two old men stood at the barred windows of the asylum, looking out over the street. Witnesses to the accident and its’ aftermath. There had been a pile-up on the highway and it was proving impossible to sort out. People were rushing about in panic and confusion, crying out in a score of languages. The perpetrator of the accident insisting in Mandarin that the bloodied Latino screaming at him in Hispanic, was the true cause of the accident. Kendle tensed, shoulder and cheek to the wall as the elevator *pinged*, the doors opening to level 311 of the hospital. He leaned out slowly, one ear twitching, head and body turning until one eye could see out into the hallway, which slanted away in a wide ‘V’ from the elevator, affording him an easy view in either direction. There was no sign of the being.
He stepped boldly out into the hall. There was just no way the creature could hide in plain sight, despite what the bizarre Lir- Kajm- had told the strike team. Even if he was capable of some damnably odd things himself-
