How NOT to Travel in a Blizzard

Description

Friday morning, the 8th of February, 2013- the storm was just getting underway. There was perhaps two inches of snow on the ground.
I'm stuck home due to the operation; Jenn went to work. Well the roads weren't bad, were they?
She gets to work. The bosses thank everyone for showing up. 'It wasn't all that bad now, was it?"

It snowed like hell.

I keep waiting for a phone call, that she's coming home. Or at least that she suddenly just shows up... no dice until 1pm. Then she calls, and we discuss the best way home. Take the highway to where it connects to the main road past our house, which is one of the few way out here, that gets plowed constantly (I'd seen two plows since 7am).

The snow in the greenhouse parking lot is over two feet deep. They had to dig each car out individually. My wife gets out on the highway... which is barely passable, no one moving faster than 50K (35mph).
It seems like it takes forever to get where she's going. Driving to the head of the road she wants, adds a good ten kilometers to the trip.

Too bad she didn't get that far. Mistaking another road for the right one (undershooting by about 5 kilometers), she turns down a side road, which rapidly goes to gravel for most of its' length.

Between corn fields.
With 3-foot-deep ditches on either side.
And the snow over a foot deep, carpeting the entire area... in other words, she can't tell where the edges of the road are.

Three kilometers of that. Moving just fast enough to not get stuck. Trying to 'feel' if there are any ruts in the snow from previous vehichles (nope, none, nada). Hitting snow drifts, and having huge waves of snow fly up on the windshield each time. By this point, the only window she can see out of, is the one directly in front of her.

At one point, passing a farm house where someone is blowing the snow out of their driveway. They watch her slowly trundle by...

The road along the canal is Not plowed, but someone has driven on it. She makes it to the end of that road. Does Not stop at the intersection, as that would mean getting stuck.

Finally reaches our driveway, which I am NOT allowed to shovel thanks to needing to heal from the operation. There's a ridge of snow across the front end, from the plows.

Turns in fast, sliding sideways as she does so. A pickup truck flies thru the space she had just been occupying on the road.

Gets to where you see the car in the driveway. Gets stuck. We discover later, that the tires are not quite touching the ground. Any of them. (Winds kept hollowing out, and then filling in, the space around the car)

Gets into the house. About a half hour passes before she stops shaking. Two hours before her stomach stops hurting from the tension of the trip.

I try hard not to laugh as she details it all for me. (sorry about that)
