Interesting Shot, the Clouds so Dense but for just one spot...
First, Roddenberry was the son of a Baptist minister who rammed that denomination's dogma down Roddenberry's throat to the point that he rebelled from his old man by becoming an atheist. Ironically, some of Star Trek's best themes come straight from the Bible and, in fact, the characters quote Jesus verbatim! First example that comes to mind was "The Empath," where Kirk, Spock, and Bones get caught by some race that tortures them to see if the Empath will sacrifice herself to save them, and so determine which of two races the aliens will preserve. In one scene, Bones names her "Gem," because "she's a treasure that a man went and sold all he had to buy her."
Second, the other reference was that Roddenberry was cremated and his ashes shot into outer space.
Were one of those two the correct reference?
Actually, it was a reference to him made in this espisode of the series 'Quark' (which was one of the worst sci-fi comedies ever made) [link]
